Choreographer turned filmmaker, Prabhudeva who earlier directed superthit action films like Wanted and Rowdy Rathore, tried his hands for the first time in the romantic genre with recently released Ramaiya Vastavaiya starring newcomer Girish Kumar and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles. The movie however managed to do an average business at the box-office.
The film, which hit the theatres on July 19th, 2013 has already completed two weeks of its run and has managed to collect a total of over INR 33 crore. Nikhil Advani’s D-Day featuring Arjun Rampal, Rishi Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Irrfan Khan, which released on the same day along with Ramaiya Vastavaiya, did not manage to hinder the film’s business at the domestic Box-Office. However since the film was made at a whooping budget of INR 38 crore, it failed to earn the expected.
The film made a total of 27.40 crore at the end of its first weekend. It went on to make INR 3.75 crore in its second weekend and INR 2 crore on second weekdays, bringing the total domestic collection of the film to INR 33.15 crore. The film’s overseas business is 1.00 crore till date, making the total of its domestic and overseas business to INR 34.15 crore.
Considering the fact that there were no big releases after two weeks of Ramaiya Vastavaiya’s release at the Box-Office, the movie did not do the likely business. With this rate, the film is estimated to make approximately 35 crore lifetime figure with only a few screens left in which the film is still screened.
Meanwhile, Prabhudeva is back to track by helming another action film, titled Rambo Rajkumar with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles.
