New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) Actress
Deepika Padukone, who
plays a wild-child in her upcoming film "
Cocktail", says she
went out of her comfort zone for the role of Veronica.
"It is completely different from anything that I have
ever played on-screen. I could not relate to the character at
all. That is the reason it was very challenging for me.
Veronica is very fiery, feisty and super confident. It was out
of my comfort zone," Deepika said.
The 26-year-old model-turned-actress said that her
character is not an extension of the one she played in 2010
film "
Break Ke Baad".
"It is not an extension of Aliya from 'Break Ke Baad'. I
do not believe in playing safe and being repetitive. I was
first offered the role of
Meera in 'Cocktail'. But I refused
it because it was similar to my character in '
Love Aaj Kal'. I
took a risk, went out of my comfort zone by deciding to pay
Veronica," she added.
"Cocktail" has been directed by Homi Adajania and
co-produced by actor
Saif Ali Khan, who also stars in the
film. The film also marks the debut of model
Diana Penty.
"I wanted to do something different, something more
challenging. That is the reason when I was offered the role of
Meera, I grabbed it with both hands. The transition from being
a model to an actress was smooth, I took acting classes,
attended workshops, took dance classes. I wanted to give it my
best shot," Penty said.
Ever since the first trailor was out, the resemblance
between the two leading ladies of the film has been much
talked about- to an extent of them being called sisters.
"We did not realize it when we were shooting but when the
promos came out, people started talking about it and it was
then that we realized. People came to us and told us that we
looked like sisters," Deepika said.
