Initial days
Saif has two sisters Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan. He did his schooling from Lawrence School Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh and then attended Lockers Park School in Hertfordshire, England. He then went to Winchester College in UK which is an independent school for boys. Saif was the most mischievous of the three siblings and still likes to play pranks on his sisters, every now and then. He had a pretty easy life as a child and teenager and now intends to send his teenage daughter Sara Ali Khan to Winchester College.
Career Accomplishments
Saif won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for Aashiq Awara in 1993 and then got his breakthrough role in Yeh Dillagi along with Kajol and Akshay Kumar. This movie which came out in 1994 was his first major hit movie. He then continued doing movies most of which were multi starrer movies like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Imtihaan, Kachche Dhaage and Hum Sath Sath Hain. His next break came with the movie Kya Kehna in 2000. The coming year was not very good for him and success remained dormant until Farhan Akhtar cast him in his National Award Winning Film Dil Chahta Hai in which he starred opposite Akshay Khannna and Aamir Khan. This won him the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role. His next hit movie was Nikhil Verma’s Kal Ho Na Ho with Shahrukh and Preity Zinta. It was the second top grossing movie of 2003. Saif has since proved that he is a versatile actor and has given a variety of performances in hit movies like – Hum Tum, Parineeta, Being Cyrus and Salam Namaste. His movie Omkara was even selected for screening at the Cannes film festival.
Fun Facts
Saif comes from a Pushtun Afghan blood line and following the death of his father in 2011 he has been proclaimed the Nawab of Pataudi by the villagers of Pataudi State even though the title does not have any legal or official significance. Saif happens to be a trained guitarist and occasionally performs at concerts. He had a mild heart attack in February 2007 and since has been very careful about his health. It is said that he had lived secretly with Kareena Kapoor before the two tied the knot. Saif owns and drives a Black color BMW 7 series Sedan. He has been a part of two major world tours and performed on nineteen stage shows around the world.
Brand and Cause Affiliations
Saif was part of the ‘HELP Telethon Concert’ which was arranged to help raise money for the victims of Tsunami in 2004. He was also a part of the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. He performed along with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rani Mukherji during the 2010 Commonwealth Games which were held in New Delhi. Saif has been the brand ambassador of a number of brands like – Airtel, Wyncon mobile, Asian Paints, Lays chips and Provogue. He also manages the eye hospital and a number of charitable organizations run by his ancestral Trust.
Friends, Family and Hobbies
Saif had made headlines when he married a much older Amrita Singh in October 1991. He made headlines again when he went through a divorce in 2004. He has two children Ibrahim and Sara from this marriage and there is news that sixteen year old Sara wants to join films. He dated an Italy born Swiss model Rosa Catalano whom he had met in Kenya for about three years before he started dating Kareena Kapoor in 2007. The two made their relationship public in 2009 and tied the knot after years or media speculation in 2012.
