Akshay Kumar is an Indian actor who was born to Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on 9 September 1967. He has performed in more than 125 films. He started his career in the field of acting in 1990 by performing mainly in action movies. He has won the Filmfare award twice. He is also a very good martial artist. He became famous after his hit movies Yeh Dillagi, Dhadkan and Namastey London. He got major success in 2007. It was the time when he acted in four successive profitable hits. His two hit movies houseful and Rowdy Rathore earned more than 100 crores in 2012. Till February 2013, box office assembly of Akshay Kumar’s films has crossed 2000 crore and till now, he is the only actor in the history of Bollywood to achieve that level.

Initial Days
Akshay Kumar was born to Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia (an army officer) and Aruna Bhatia in Amritsar, Punjab. He has one sister. He completed his early education from Don Bosco School in Mumbai and graduation from Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Mumbai. He got black belt in taekwondo when he was in India. He went to Bangkok, Thailand to learn Muay Thai. After coming back to India, he became a martial arts teacher in Mumbai. One amongst his martial arts students was a professional photographer and he recommended Akshay to go for modeling. He started modeling and after that producer Pramod Chatravarthy signed Akshay Kumar for the movie Deedar.

Akshay Kumar started his acting career in Bollywood with a movie Saugandh in 1991. Khiladi was the thriller movie of Akshay Kumar which released in 1992. In 1994, his movies Mohra and Main Khiladi Tu Anari (action movies) were the highest grossers of the time. Yeh Dillagi was his first romantic film which was also a great success. In 1994, Akshay had eleven astonishing releases with Elaan, ZakhmiDil, YehDillagi, Jai Kishan, IkkePeIkka, Mohra, Suhaag, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Amaanat, Zaalim and Hum Hain Bemisaal. In 1999, Akshay Kumar got critical acclaim for his remarkable performance in Jaanwar and Sangharsh.

He was awarded Rajiv Gandhi Award in 2004 for his exceptional achievements in Bollywood. University of Windsor awarded Akshay with honorary Doctrate of Law in 2008 for his extraordinary work in film industry as well as social work. In 2008 Akshay was also named “the sexiest man alive” by the people magazine. In 2009, he was awarded a sixth degree black belt in Kuyukai Goju-Ryu karate and the highest Japanese honor of “Katana”.

This famous actor was a martial arts teacher when he was suggested by one of his students to participate in modeling and this was when he started his career. Before his marriage to Twinkle, he dated a number of his co-starts including Rekha and Raveena Tandon. Akshay Kumar’s first ever car was Fiat. Every day, she starts off with 2 glasses of warm water. The salary that Akshay Kumar used to earn years ago was INR 4000 as a martial arts teacher. He used to go jogging early at 4 a.m. in order to protect himself from being robbed. Though this actor is not a reader, yet he is the writer of a book.

He has one son named Aaray and one daughter named Nitara.
